BOTOX® Cosmetic

For a quick wrinkle fix, more and more cosmetic enhancement patients are choosing BOTOX® Cosmetic. No matter how well we take care of our skin, nature can't be deterred from running its course; but thanks to Botox® treatments, and the newcomer injectable Dysport, we are no longer helpless in the face of aging. Known as one of the industry's top, non-surgical solutions for wrinkles, crow's feet, and laugh lines, Botox® is a leader in anti-aging skin care and facial rejuvenation.

How Does BOTOX® Work?

BOTOX® Cosmetic, while it is a dermal injectable, differs in treatment method from dermal fillers like Restylane. By injecting a refined form of the botulinum toxin into the muscle groups of treated areas, Botox injections eliminate wrinkles by relaxing facial muscles and consequently smoothing out fine lines and dimples.

Am I a Candidate for BOTOX®?

For patients ranging in age from 25-50, BOTOX® Cosmetic has produced wonderful anti-aging results when it comes to ridding the skin of premature or developing wrinkles. Elderly patients might not achieve the same desired results since Botox injections, while able to ease facial tension through muscle relaxation, cannot improve the elasticity of aging skin. Older patients can still achieve amazing anti-aging results with non-surgical facelift procedures such as ContrAge™ and Thermage, Titan™ or Refirme™ skin tightening.

Are There any Side Effects With BOTOX®?

If any side effects occur with BOTOX® Cosmetic they are quite minor. After receiving BOTOX® injections it's possible to experience a mild headache, which can be treated with an over-the-counter pain reliever, or slight bruising at the injection site, which will disappear within 3-7 days. Bruises can often be concealed with makeup if they occur.

BOTOX® patients receiving injections around the mouth should talk to their provider about their injection method prior to treatment, since relaxing facial muscles in that area can lead to numbness, drooling, or slurred speech.

How Long do BOTOX® Cosmetic Results Last?

BOTOX® injections usually ensure wrinkle-free results for 3-6 months, or even as long as 8 months, depending on the patient. At that time, wrinkles will gradually start to reappear, but usually less pronounced than they were before. Clinical studies have shown that with continued BOTOX® treatments, the reappearance of wrinkles occurs less and less, and consequently, follow-up treatments are required less often.

Does Insurance Cover BOTOX® Injections?

Because Botox injections are typically considered a cosmetic treatment, insurance usually does not cover the procedures. However, in the instance of botox injections for hyperhidrosis or migraine headaches, the medical nature of the treatments may allow for coverage. Be sure to discuss the different botox treatments with your healthcare provider to learn more about what treatment options may be covered for you.
